How to Be Alone is a 2002 book by Jonathan Franzen. According to the book's description, it contains "fourteen essays...fourteen fresh answers to the question of how to be alone in a noisy and distracting mass culture." It contains the famous "Harper's Essay", given the title here of "Why Bother?".
