Honnoji Temple

Honnoji Temple (本能寺) is a Buddhist temple located in central Japan. It is most famous for being the temporary accommodation of Oda Nobunaga before his invasion of the east. However on the morning of the 21st June 1582 the temple was surrounded and set on fire by the traitorous forces of Akechi Mitsuhide. Nobunaga died in the fire (possibly by his own hand) and Mitsuhide would later be killed by Toyotomi Hideyoshi
