Honda Del Sol

First launched in 1992, the Honda Del Sol was a two-seater offshoot of the Honda Civic and the replacement for the Honda Civic CRX model line. It had a removable targa top, making it a small, practical, and affordable top-down motorcar. In 1993, the Del Sol was first introduced to America in two trim levels, the 102 hp D15B7 S and the 124 hp D16Z6 powered Si. The high performance 160 hp B16A3 powered VTEC trim line was added in 1994, with the first appearance of a Honda VTEC B-series motor in a U.S. Honda. The Del Sol model line underwent a slight alteration in 1996 in an attempt to boost sales, but uncharacteristically poor body maintenance (the targa tops were prone to leaks in early models) and poor advertisement had all but doomed the Del Sol. Production and sales ended with the 1997 model in America and 1998 overseas, with a total of slightly under 75,000 models sold in America. Del Sol
