Hofsjkull
Hofsjkull
is the third largest
glacier
in
Iceland
after
Vatnajkull
and
Langjkull
covering an area of 994
square kilometres
. Its highest peak reaches 1807
metres
. It is situated in the west of the Icelandic Interior or
Highlands of Iceland
between
Vatnajkull
and
Langjkull
. Under the glacier, there is a caldera which was not known for a long time. Two of the bigger highland tracks are leading alongside this glacier:
Sprengisandur Highland road
and
Kjlur Highland road
. Not far to the south of the glacier, there are the
Kerlingarfjll
, a mountain range known for the possibility of summer skying.
