Hofsjkull

Hofsjkull is the third largest glacier in Iceland after Vatnajkull and Langjkull covering an area of 994 square kilometres. Its highest peak reaches 1807 metres. It is situated in the west of the Icelandic Interior or Highlands of Iceland between Vatnajkull and Langjkull. Under the glacier, there is a caldera which was not known for a long time. Two of the bigger highland tracks are leading alongside this glacier: Sprengisandur Highland road and Kjlur Highland road. Not far to the south of the glacier, there are the Kerlingarfjll, a mountain range known for the possibility of summer skying. See also: Geography of Iceland
