Its county seat is Levelland6, and the county is named for George Washington Hockley, a Secretary of War of the Republic of Texas. Geography According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 2,353 km² (909 mi²). 2,352 km² (908 mi²) of it is land and 1 km² (0 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.03% water. There are 7,994 households out of which 38.10% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 60.40% are married couples living together, 11.50% have a female householder with no husband present, and 23.80% are non-families. 21.20% of all households are made up of individuals and 10.00% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older.
