Hobbing Machine

A hobbing machine is a special form of milling machine that mills gears. It generates the gear form required by rotating the gear blank and the cutter at the same time. The cutter has a rack profile and is in the form of a helix so that the sides of the teeth on the cutter generate the curve on the gear. This technique can generate involute gears, ratchets and cycloid gears.
