Hereward
participated in the
Battle of Calabria
in July
1940
, the
Battle of Cape Matapan
in March
1941
and the evacuation of
Greece
in April 1941.
Hereward
was attacked by enemy
German
and Italian dive bombers as she evacuated
British Commonwealth
forces from
Crete
and sank in
Kaso Strait
east of Crete on
19 May
1941
