HMS ''Defiance
was a
3rd rate
ship of the line
of the
Royal Navy
, of 74 guns, built in 1783. Her crew mutinied three times, in 1794, 1797 (the
Spithead mutiny
) and 1798 (the rising of the
United Irishmen
). She fought at
Copenhagen
and
Trafalgar
, where she captured the Spanish ship
San Juan Nepomuceno''. After serving as a prison ship, she was broken up in 1816. See
