. They were named after the former British colony Ceylon, which is now
Sri Lanka
.
The first
HMS
Ceylon
was a 32 gun
frigate
renamed in
1808
and converted to a troopship in
1817
, eventually being sold in
1875
.
The second
HMS
Ceylon
was a private
yacht
requisitioned in
1915
and returned to her owners in
1916
.
The third
HMS
Ceylon
was a 8000
ton
displacement
Crown Colony-class cruiser
commissioned in
1943
, which fought in the
East Indies
in
World War II
. After further service, she was sold to
Peru
in
1960
and renamed the
Coronel Bolognesi
until being decommissioned in
1982
.
