hms afridi (f07)

The second HMS Afridi (L-07/F-07) was a Tribal-class destroyer of the Royal Navy laid down by the High Walker Yard of Vickers Armstrong at Newcastle-on-Tyne on 9 June 1936, launched on 8 June 1937 by Lady Foster and commissioned on 3 May 1938. Afridi served with 4th Destroyer Flotilla of the Mediterranean Fleet, and participated in sea campaigns off Norway. HMS Afridi, commanded by Captain Philip Vian, RN, was attacked by enemy German Ju-87 dive bombers as she evacuated troops from Namsos and sank in the Norwegian Sea north-west of Namsos in Norway on 3 May 1940 with the loss of 100 men, including rescued troops and survivors from the sunken French destroyer Bison.
