laid down by Scotts Shipbuilding and Engineering Company at
Greenock
in
Scotland
on
25 May
1973
, launched on
3 December
1975
and commissioned on
27 April
1978
. HMAS Otama paid off on
15 December
2000
and is preserved as a museum at
Hastings
in
Victoria
. Throughout the
1960s
and
1970s
,
Australia
also ordered five other O-class submarines:
HMAS Oxley
,
HMAS Otway
,
HMAS Ovens
,
HMAS Onslow
and
HMAS Orion
