Hmas Ipswich

Two ships of the Royal Australian Navy have been named for the Queensland city of Ipswich.
The first HMAS Ipswich (J-186/B-244/A-118) was a Bathurst class corvette built by Evans deakin and Company at Brisbane in Queensland, launched on 11 August 1941 by Mrs. H. S. Foll, wife of the Minister for the Interior, and commissioned on 13 June 1942. HMAS Ipswich paid off on 5 July 1946, was transferred to the Royal Netherlands Navy and renamed Morotai. Morotai was later transferred to the Indonesian Navy and renamed Hang Tuah.
The second HMAS Ipswich (P-209) is a Fremantle class patrol boat laid down by the North Queensland Engineers and Agents at Cairns in Queensland on 29 October 1980, launched on 25 September 1982 and commissioned on 13 November 1982. Ipswich
