Hiroaki Shukuzawa

Shukuzawa, Hiroaki Hiroaki Shukuzawa is the most successful rugby coach the Japan national rugby union team has had so far. On May 28, 1989 his team beat a weakened Scotland team shorn of nine British Lions then in Australia (Gary Armstrong, Finlay Calder, Craig Chalmers, Peter Dods, John Jeffrey, Gavin Hastings, Scott Hastings, David Sole and Derek White) by 28-24 at Chichibunomiya stadium in Tokyo. Then in the 1991 Rugby Union World Cup his team convincingly defeated Zimbabwe 52-8 in Belfast. This is Japan's only victory in any Rugby World Cup so far. Mr. Shukuzawa is a Waseda University graduate who played rugby for his university and he now works as a senior executive with Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation (SMBC) in Tokyo. He was capped by Japan as a scrum half, and advises the Japan Rugby Football Union.
