Hip Hop Collaborations

Collaborations between hip hop artists is a frequent occurence and one of the defining features of the genre. Collaborations are often used to create networks within the industry. No other music, other than jazz has had so many "big name" collaborations in it's cultural context. Some rappers, such as Ludacris, have built up cred more through his collaborative efforts than any of his solo material. When music is performed live, even more collaborations are to be had, informal and formal, as rappers often have a "posse" on stage with them, who also perform, or simply dance.
