Hill County, TexasHill County is a county located in the state of Texas. As of 2000, the population is 32,321. Its county seat is Hillsboro6. The county is named for George Washington Hill, a secretary of war and secretary of the navy under the Republic of Texas. Geography According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 2,553 km² (986 mi²). 2,492 km² (962 mi²) of it is land and 60 km² (23 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 2.36% water. There are 14,624 housing units at an average density of 6/km² (15/mi²). The racial makeup of the county is 84.16% White, 7.40% Black or African American, 0.44% Native American, 0.25% Asian, 0.02% Pacific Islander, 6.02% from other races, and 1.71% from two or more races. 13.49% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 12,204 households out of which 30.70% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 57.50% are married couples living together, 10.10% have a female householder with no husband present, and 28.50% are non-families. 24.80% of all households are made up of individuals and 12.50% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.58 and the average family size is 3.07. In the county, the population is spread out with 25.90% under the age of 18, 8.50% from 18 to 24, 24.90% from 25 to 44, 23.40% from 45 to 64, and 17.30% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 38 years. For every 100 females there are 96.70 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 93.70 males. The median income for a household in the county is $31,600, and the median income for a family is $37,791. Males have a median income of $29,438 versus $20,765 for females. The per capita income for the county is $15,514. 15.70% of the population and 11.90% of families are below the poverty line.
