High Elves (Warcraft)

Backstory

In the Warcraft Universe, Highbourne were Night Elves that were favored by the Queen. They experimented with primitive but powerful magic and eventually drew demons into Kalimdor. After a devastating war, the surviving Highbourne were allowed to live, but the same magic that brought the demons was still being used. They were exiled, and found the continent of Azeroth, where they founded the kingdom of Quel'Thalas. They are now known as the High Elves.

History

During the Reign of Chaos, Quel'Thalas was attacked by the Undead Scourge, led by Prince Arthas, who needed the energies of the Elves' Sunwell to revive the slain Necromancer, Kel'Thuzad. The Elves fought against the scourge, but the Undead were triumphant, and destroyed the Elves' nation. The survivors of Quel'Thalas, led by Prince Kael'thas, burned the forests of their kingdom to spite the Scourge. They rejoined the Alliance remnants in Dalaran, and renamed themselves the Blood Elves, who dress in blood red clothing. The Blood Elves, now obsessed with evil magic, were eventually shunned and left the Alliance to join with the Naga under Illidan's banner. However, a minority of High Elves, primarily those who fled to Kalimdor with Jaina Proudmoore or lived elsewhere before the fall of Quel'Thalas, refused to court demonic magics and remain loyal to the Alliance.
