Herzliyya

Herzliya (הרצליה; unofficially also spelled Herzliyya and Herzlia) is a city in Israel, on the central coastal strip in the south of the Sharon region, just north of Tel Aviv (about 15 minutes drive), and part of the Tel Aviv metropolitan area in the Tel Aviv District. Western Herzliya, also called Herzliya-Pituach is located on the Mediterranean coast and contains a stretch of popular beachfront hotels, High-Tech business area, busy restaurants and an exclusive residential area housing the residence of the United States ambassador and many of Israel's cream-of-the-crop. The city of Herzliya is named after Theodor Herzl, the father of modern Zionism. Herzliya was founded in 1924 by seven pioneering families and today its population numbers 100,000. The city's flag describes seven stars (according to Herzl's idea of seven days of work), a small boat, two packs of wheat and a boat's stirring wheel. Herzliya has a small airport (code: LLHZ), two shopping centers, a yacht marina, three movie theaters (one of which is the Cinema City, the biggest cinema complex in Israel), a sports center, professional basketball and soccer teams and three high schools.
