There are a number of Heritage railways in the Republic of Ireland, reflecting Ireland's long railway history. Some of the main sites include:

The Donegal Railway Centre in County Donegal, a county which once had not one, but two narrow gauge railway systems.
The Cavan & Leitrim Railway at Dromod, County Leitrim, a former railway station on the original Cavan & Leitrim Railway.
The Waterford & Suir Valley Heritage Railway, running a short narrow gauge railway for several miles along the former mainline route from Waterford to Mallow.
The Shannonbridge Bog Railway in County Offaly, run by Brd na Mna runs on some disused industrial narrow gauge railway in the area, with tours of reclaimed bogland.

Another site is the Tralee Steam Railway, while a demonstration section of Listowel's Lartigue monorail system has been opened to visitors, with a replica monorail steam locomotive. The route originally ran to Ballybunion. Some preservation groups in Ireland include:

The Railway Preservation Society of Ireland based in Whitehead, County Antrim in Northern Ireland, but running railtours regularly in the Republic.
Irish Traction Group based at Carrick-on-Suir in County Tipperary. A collection of diesel locomotives are preserved, some in running order, at the site by the Limerick–Waterford railway route. ITG also run regular railtours around the country, sometimes with older (but still in regular use) Iarnrd ireann locomotives and rolling stock.
