Henry Mitchell Jones

Henry Mitchell Jones was an Irish recipient of the Victoria Cross, the highest and most prestigious award for gallantry in the face of the enemy that can be awarded to British] and forces.

Details

He was 24 years old, and a
Captain in the 7th Regiment (later The Royal Fusiliers), British Army during the Crimean War when the following deed took place for which he was awarded the VC. On 7 June 1855 at Sebastopol, Crimea, Captain Jones distinguished himself while serving with the party which stormed and took the Quarries. He repeatedly led his men to repel the continual assaults of the enemy during the night and although wounded early in the evening, he remained at his post until after daylight the following morning.
