Henner HofmannHenner Hofmann, ASC, AMC (born July, 1950) is an artist. Henner Hofmann Domenge was born in Mexico City. Both of his parents were artists. His father was a sculptor who was born in Frankfurt, Germany. He studied Plastic Arts at the Ballhaus and later in Paris in the workshop of the French sculptor A. Mallol. In 1939 he arrived in Mxico where he continued with his creative career, becoming one of the most finest and recognized artist in the plastic arts in Mxico and in the world. His mother, Kitzia Hofmann, was a stained-glass artist; her work can be seen in several churches of Mxico and the United States. With this background, Henner Hofmann grew up surrounded by art and artists, developing at an early age the pleasure of the visual arts, and particularly movies and photography. At the age of 18 Henner went to the University Center of Cinematographic Studies, CUEC at The Mexican Autonomous University to become a cinematographer. The Circus, a documentary presented as his thesis, was distinguished with an honorable mention in Varsov, Poland. His love for images led him to found, in 1975, in the company of directors, producers and anthropologists, the Archives of Ethnic Communities, with more than 45 documentaries about the indigenous communities in Mexico. After four years of traveling through all the corners of the country capturing beautiful images, he photographed his first film Bajo el Mismo Sol. From that day Henner has had a brilliant career as Director of Photography, being one of the finest photographers in Mexico. He was the first Mexican cinematographer to win a Coral Award for best Photography in the Havana film festival that identifies him as one of the best photographers in the Spanish language. He has also won an Ariel, the most prestigious award in the Mexican film industry. as well as his work as cinematographer, he has worked as a teacher in Film Schools in Mexico City. In 1992 he founded the Mexican Society of Cinematographers of which he is still the president. He practises other film disciplines such as scriptwriter becoming a member of the Screen Writers' Guild in Mexico City. He has been a member of the Technicians and Cinematographic Production Guild since 1978 in Mexico City. He also is an honorary member of the Mexican Academy of Arts and Cinematographic Science. Henner Hofmann is a very well educated man who speaks Spanish, English and German fluently; these give him a broad sense of communication and a global aesthetic vision.
