Hayley Jensen

Hayley Jensen (ne Thomas) (born January 7, 1983) was thrust into celebrity status after appearing on the second season (2004) of television ratings hit show Australian Idol, on the Ten Network. She was the fourth finalist, leaving the show on November 1.

Biography

Hayley was born in Albury, New South Wales, but has lived in Canberra for most of her life. Before entering the Idol competition she was a university student at University of Canberra studying Economics & Management. She was recently married to her husband Tim in January 2004.

Australian Idol

After being turned back from her first audition, performing Christina Aguilera's "The Voice Within", in her hometown of Canberra—denied by Idol judges Ian "Dicko" Dickson and Mark Holden, voted "yes" by Marcia Hines—she travelled to Sydney to try again. This time Mark Holden changed his mind and agreed to give her a chance to perform in the first round of Australian Idol in Sydney. During the first round she performed Sarah McLachlan's "Angel", thought by many of her fans to be one of her best performances in the competition. This performance resulted in the viewing public voting her into the Final 12. Also put through to the Final 12 from her group of ten, were Courtney Murphy and Chanel Cole, with the popular Ngaiire Joseph considered unlucky to miss out. During her Idol progression she has shown her ability to be versatile, and is able to fit the character for any theme night. She has been attacked countless times by Dicko for her dancing ability, and by Mark for her "recording voice"—which he believes she lacks. The Australian public did not agree with the judges' comments and continued to support her as far as the Final 4. Public belief is that, due to her exposure on Australian Idol, and her talent, we should be seeing a lot more of Hayley in the near future—following the trends of many of last season's idols who received recording contracts.
