Harit Pradesh

Harit Pradesh is the name of a new state proposed in India, which advocates are seeking to carve out of the western portion of India's Uttar Pradesh state. The most prominent advocate for the creation of the new state is Ajit Singh, leader of the Rashtriya Lok Dal party. The proposed state includes 22 districts in five divisions: Meerut, Agra, Saharanpur, Bareilly and Moradabad. The region has a higher Muslim population, roughly 30%, than the approximately 17% of Uttar Pradesh as a whole.
