Hapag-lloyd ExpressHapag-Lloyd Express is a no-frills, high-frequency German express airline. It is a part of the TUI AG empire, which also includes the Hapag-Lloyd cargo container line and cruise line, and the charter airline, Hapag-Lloyd Airlines. Hapag-Lloyd Express was initiated in the early 2000s. Its primary bases in Germany are Hamburg Airport, Stuttgart Airport, and Cologne Bonn Airport. It serves several destinations in Western Europe such as Dublin and London from these bases. Its main competitors are more established no-frills carriers such as Ryanair and Easyjet, as well as the other recent low-fare startups such as Germanwings and BasiqAir. It is currently engaged in a price war with these carriers. In an attempt to win this price war, it expanded rapidly in the first half of 2004, announcing many new routes that it viewed as underserved by other airlines, including routes from Dublin Airport to Hamburg and Stuttgart. As of June 2004, Hapag-Lloyd Express served twenty-four cities from its German bases. Hapag-Lloyd Express airplanes are highly recognisable with a distinctive taxi-style look - a chequered black and white line wrapped around a yellow body, aiming to convey the image of quick, cheap point-to-point service.
