Halloween 2002 Protest

The Halloween 2002 protest was a series of protests against capitalism and war in general, and the planned war on Iraq in particular. The protests were the result of a call to action by the Disobedience (a loose network connected to London EF!, London RTS and WOMBLES) and other radical anarchist and socialist groups. It should be noted that this was one of the few mass actions that was organised and publicised - for the most part - beyond and outside the hierachies of the SWP and the Stop the War Coalition.

United Kingdom

Accoring to the UK Independent Media Centre, "around 150 different events included critical mass bike rides, occupations, and mass demonstrations in Brighton, Manchester, Glasgow and London and many other places." On October 31, people dressed as ghosts marched on the Parliament of the United Kingdom in London and succeeded in projecting "No war on Iraq" on the Palace of Westminster, as well as some well needed direct action against those corporations who were likely to benefit from the war in Iraq

United States

Protests in the US were against both the planned invasion of Iraq issue and the Free Trade Area of the Americas agreement currently under negotiation.
