Halbert And Nancy Robinson Center For Young Scholars

The Halbert and Nancy Robinson Center for Young Scholars is a gifted education program hosted at the University of Washington, developed to help gifted students in the state of Washington fully reach their potential with the following programs: - The Transition School/Early Entrance Program, facilitating early entrance into the university for 16 teenagers no older than 14 years in age. Through an intensive one-year Transition School program, students complete what is equivalent to four years of an high school's work, entering the university afterwards. - The UW Academy for Young Scholars, selecting 35 high school sophomores to enroll in the university's honor program as full-time University of Washington students. - Summer Challenge, an academic summer program for 5th-6th graders. - Summer Stretch, an academic summer program for 7th-10th graders. Five-week commuting summer program for gifted students in grades 7-10. It is open only to students in the Seattle area with qualifying SAT or ACT scores. Students can take courses such as Algebra 1 & 2, Biology, Chemistry, Essay Writing, Geometry and Physics, Humanities, Integrated 1, Integrated 2, Integrated 3, Pre-Calculus, Debate, Shakespeare's Comedies and Geometry. The cost of this program is $640 including the application fee. Students generally expect an average of 14 hours of homework per week. - Washington Search for Young Scholars, a talent search for students in the Northwest, similar in some ways to the Center for Talented Youth, although students take the ACT instead of the SAT.
