Gull River (Ontario)

Ontario
: The
Gull River
in the
Kawartha Lakes
region flows through the town of
Minden, Ontario
, passes through Gull Lake and empties into
Balsam Lake
on the
Trent-Severn Waterway
. A white water course has been constructed on the river at Minden. During the
19th
and early
20th century
, the river was used to transport logs to sawmills downstream. The
Gull River
in
Thunder Bay District
flows east into Gull Bay on the western side of
Lake Nipigon
. The river passes through the Gull River
First Nation
Reserve located on the south shore of Lake Nipigon. Near the end of the
18th century
, the
Hudson's Bay Company
established a
fur trading
post, Nipigon House, at Gull Bay. The river's name is translated from the
Ojibwa
name,
