Saharan
oasis in
Algeria
near the
Tunisian
border, in the
Oued Souf
area of the
wilaya
of
El Oued

), about 20 km north of
El Oued
city. It includes a
zaouia
and a border post; the latter is notable for having been attacked by two
Islamists
who had fought in
Afghanistan

Tayeb Messaoudi
and
Abderrahmane Dahane
, on
November 27
,
1991
, before the beginning of the
Algerian Civil War
proper.
