Grimbergen

Grimbergen is a municipality in the province of Flemish Brabant, in Flanders, one of the three regions of Belgium. The municipality comprises the towns of Beigem, Grimbergen proper, Humbeek and Strombeek-Bever. On January 1st, 2004 Grimbergen had a total population of 33,362 (16,010 males and 17,352 females). The total area is 38.59 km² which gives a population density of 864.51 inhabitants per km². Grimbergen is also the name of the Belgian beer first brewed in 1128 at the abbey that Saint Norbert built for the Norbertine monks. They became famous for providing hospitality and their home-brewed beer to visitors, and handed down the recipe over the centuries. The beers are now brewed by Alken Maes brewery group. The varieties are : Blond, Dubbel (brown), Tripel (blond), Optimo Bruno (brown) and Cuve de l'Ermitage (brown) Grimbergen. The main football club used to be K.F.C. Strombeek and is now named F.C. Molenbeek Brussels Strombeek which is located in Molenbeek Saint-Jean.
