Geography is located at 39°21'46" North, 121°41'53" West (39.362728, -121.698016). According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 4.1 km² (1.6 mi²). 4.1 km² (1.6 mi²) of it is land and none of it is covered by water. Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 5,382 people, 1,841 households, and 1,266 families residing in the city. The population density is 1,323.6/km² (3,427.6/mi²). There are 1,963 housing units at an average density of 482.8/km² (1,250.2/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 66.57% White, 0.32% Black or African American, 1.54% Native American, 3.47% Asian, 0.02% Pacific Islander, 24.06% from other races, and 4.01% from two or more races. 38.63% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 1,841 households out of which 36.7% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 48.0% are married couples living together, 15.3% have a female householder with no husband present, and 31.2% are non-families. 26.5% of all households are made up of individuals and 15.1% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.86 and the average family size is 3.48. In the city the population is spread out with 30.1% under the age of 18, 10.0% from 18 to 24, 25.3% from 25 to 44, 18.6% from 45 to 64, and 15.9% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 33 years. For every 100 females there are 91.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 86.2 males. The median income for a household in the city is $24,368, and the median income for a family is $29,957. Males have a median income of $28,347 versus $24,444 for females. The per capita income for the city is $12,267. 23.3% of the population and 19.5% of families are below the poverty line.
