Gretta DuisenbergGretta Duisenberg (born in 1942 as Gretta Nieuwenhuizen) is a controversial Dutch political activist and the wife of the Dutch politician Wim Duisenberg. Gretta is by profession a nurse. She was married to the internist Bedier de Prairie, with whom she had three children. After their divorce, she became active in an left-wing organisation and had a relation with (at the time) the Dutch minister of defense Hans van Mierlo. Possibly, this relationship was the subject of investigation of the Dutch secret services. In 1987 Gretta Bedier de Prairie-Nieuwenhuizen married Wim Duisenberg, another important Dutch politician. During Wim's presidency over the European Central Bank, Gretta hung a huge Palestinian flag from their house in Amsterdam, which Wim later removed. Her action was motivated by the claims that Israeli forces had massacred hundreds or thousands of Palestinians during a raid in Jenin, which later proved false. Her Jewish neighbors, who spoke to her about the flag, claim she made racist remarks in response. Later, she became infamous when she declared in an interview, that she was aiming to collect 6 million signatures against Israeli policies and laughed about her "joke". She was thought to be referring to the 6 million Jewish victims in the Holocaust. She also met Yasser Arafat, who called her his "sister", and had some pictures taken with him. Duisenberg Duisenberg
