Greensburg is a town located in St. Helena Parish, Louisiana. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 631.

Geography

Greensburg is located at 30°49'41" North, 90°40'9" West (30.827953, -90.669302). According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 6.5 km² (2.5 mi²). 6.5 km² (2.5 mi²) of it is land and 0.40% is water.

Demographics

As of the census of 2000, there are 631 people, 242 households, and 150 families residing in the town. The population density is 96.7/km² (250.6/mi²). There are 275 housing units at an average density of 42.1/km² (109.2/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 66.72% White, 32.96% African American, 0.00% Native American, 0.16% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.00% from other races, and 0.16% from two or more races. 0.79% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 242 households out of which 31.0% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 41.3% are married couples living together, 15.7% have a female householder with no husband present, and 38.0% are non-families. 35.1% of all households are made up of individuals and 16.5% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.33 and the average family size is 3.06. In the town the population is spread out with 22.3% under the age of 18, 8.1% from 18 to 24, 24.9% from 25 to 44, 22.2% from 45 to 64, and 22.5% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 40 years. For every 100 females there are 89.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 83.5 males. The median income for a household in the town is $25,625, and the median income for a family is $35,000. Males have a median income of $30,625 versus $19,861 for females. The per capita income for the town is $15,083. 27.1% of the population and 26.0% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 35.3% of those under the age of 18 and 16.7% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
