Binomial name
Tauraco persa
(Linnaeus, 1758)
The Green Turaco, Tauraco persa, is a large turaco, a group of African near-passerines. It is a resident breeder in the forests of tropical west Africa. It lays two eggs in a tree platform nest. These are unmistakable birds, although often inconspicuous in the treetops. They are 43 cm long, including a long tail. Their plumage is green except for the small but thick red bill and red and white eye patches. They have a green crest. In flight, Green Turaco's crimson primary flight feathers contrast with the green plumage. This species is a common breeder in climax forest with plentiful tall trees. It is even more dependent on this habitat than Violet Turaco. It feeds on fruit and blossoms. Green Turaco has a loud cawr-cawr call.
