Gravitation (M. C. Escher)Gravitation (also known as Gravity) is a lithograph print by the Dutch artist M. C. Escher which was first printed in June, 1952. It depicts a polyhedron known as a small stellated dodecahedron. Each side of the polygon has a semi-rectangular doorway. Out of these doorways protrude the heads and legs of twelve turtles without shells, who are using the object as a common shell. The turtles are in six colored pairs with each like-colored turtle on opposite sides of the object from the other. The six colors are red, orange, yellow, magenta and indigo. This was printed as a black-and-white lithograph and the turtles were colored by hand in watercolor. See also *Watercolor
