Gratha Heavy FighterThe fictional Gratha heavy fighter is the lightest of the Kilrathi heavy fighters in the original Wing Commander computer game. The Gratha has fairly light guns for a heavy fighter, 2 lasers and 2 mass drivers make up the forward weaponry which is less powerful than guns of the Rapier medium fighter. However, this is still fairly powerful and Grathas are formidable opponents. Especially in numbers, an unmarked Gratha can wreak havoc on human fighters and human transport ships. The toughest mission in the original Wing Commander game (some say the toughest mission of all the Wing Commander games) features a wave of four Grathas trying to destroy a comandeered Kilrathi destroyer, even experienced players have great difficulties saving the destroyer. The Gratha's speed (320 kps) and maneuverbility is inferior to all the human spacecraft, although it is superior to the lousy handling of the even heavier Jalthi heavy fighter. Also unlike the Jalthi, the Gratha has some mines to protect against tailing enemies. The Gratha does have strong shielding and armor to survive some punches though. It is the weaker forward gunnery which makes the Gratha less feared than the Jalthi.
