Grantham CanalGrantham Canal is a canal that runs 33 miles from Grantham through 18 locks to West Bridgford where it joins the River Trent. It was built primerely to allow for the transportation of coal to Grantham. The first bill was put to Parliament in 1792 and was rejected. A second bill was put forward in 1793 and was passed. Building work on the canal started in 1793 and was completed in 1797. The canal was closed in 1936. The canal is now undergoing restoration. At this time the biggest challange is relinking the canal to the river trent since the original rout has been lost to the A52. Links http://www.granthamcanal.com/
