Provisional Government (16 Jan.–30 Aug.)

The Provisional Government which was appointed on January 14, 1922 took up Office on 16th January, 1922. The Ministry of the Second Dil was at the time already in existence, and from the January 16, 1922, until the 9th September, 1922, there was a dual system of Government.
  • (a) The Second Dil Cabinet responsible to Dil ireann
  • (b) The Provisional Government, apparently responsible to no Parliament.
The dual system terminated with the fusion of the two systems under the Third Dil on September 9, 1922. After that date, the newly constituted Provisional Government appointed by that Dil continued in being as the sole Government, until superseded on 6th December, 1922, by the formation of the 1st Executive Council.
