Government IssueAmerican punk band originated from the original Washington DC scene. They were a Straight Edge band on the Discord label. The band lasted from 1980 through 1988. The band originally was a hardcore band with many songs under the one minute mark then progressing into a more melodic song structured outfit (citing The Damned as key to gaining this catchy sound), often with lyrics motivating or critical of the short-sighted behavior of the scene they aided in creating. The singer John Stabb and guitar player Tom Lyle formed an experimental outfit called Glee Club post Government Issue (often just called GI) and made two records. Tom Lyle did two solo records that were more straight ahead hard rock in 1990 and 1992.
