Gossip Girl is a successful series of books by Cecily von Ziegezar, aimed at teenagers; the first was published in 2002. The series centres on a group of teenaged girls, the selected ones, living on New York's Fifth Avenue, who are heir to large sums of money, and thus have no financial worries. They indulge in alcohol, drugs, and sex. The keynote of the series is summed up by a quotation from Oscar Wilde which appears in the first book: “Scandal is gossip made tedious by morality”. Lindsay Lohan stars in a film based on the series, to be released in 2005.
