Goring-on-thames

Goring-On-Thames is a village and civil parish on the River Thames in the English county of Oxfordshire.

Location

Goring is located on the north bank of the River Thames, in the Goring Gap which separates the Berkshire Downs and the Chiltern Hills. The village is about 8 miles north west of Reading and 16 miles south of Oxford. Immediately across the river is the Berkshire village of Streatley, and the two are often considered as twin villages, linked as they are by Goring and Streatley Bridge and its adjacent lock and weir. The Great Western main line railway passes through Goring, and Goring & Streatley railway station in the village is served by local trains between Reading and Oxford. Local Government

Goring is a civil parish with an elected parish council. It falls within the areas of South Oxfordshire District Council and Oxfordshire County Council. All three councils are responsible for different aspects of local government.
