Goose Island (Chicago)

Goose Island is the only natural island located within the boundaries of the city of Chicago, USA. Goose Island is located in the Chicago River. The island is separated from the mainland by the North Branch of the Chicago River on the west and the North Branch Canal on the east. Labelling the island natural can be misleading since the canal (along with the turning basin at the northern end of the island) was dug for industrial use. Compare with another island in Chicago, Northerly Island, which is completely man-made.
