Golgi Tendon Organs

Golgi tendon organs are organs in the tendons of skeletal muscle, where they are subject to stretching as the muscle is stretched. These afferent receptors alter their rate of firing according to the tension in the muscle: More tension results in more action potentials fired. They thus send information to the brain regarding the actual tension the muscle is achieving in contraction.
