Golden Hills is a census-designated place located in Kern County, California. As of the 2000 census, the CDP had a total population of 7,434.

Geography

Golden Hills is located at 35°8'44" North, 118°29'40" West (35.145680, -118.494549). According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 31.9 km² (12.3 mi²). 31.9 km² (12.3 mi²) of it is land and 0.1 km² (0.04 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.16% water.

Demographics

As of the census of 2000, there are 7,434 people, 2,547 households, and 2,019 families residing in the CDP. The population density is 233.4/km² (604.4/mi²). There are 2,841 housing units at an average density of 89.2/km² (231.0/mi²). The racial makeup of the CDP is 83.24% White, 1.30% Black or African American, 0.85% Native American, 1.44% Asian, 0.08% Pacific Islander, 7.88% from other races, and 5.21% from two or more races. 16.52% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 2,547 households out of which 46.0% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 65.1% are married couples living together, 9.4% have a female householder with no husband present, and 20.7% are non-families. 17.9% of all households are made up of individuals and 6.1% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.92 and the average family size is 3.30. In the CDP the population is spread out with 33.8% under the age of 18, 7.4% from 18 to 24, 27.9% from 25 to 44, 21.5% from 45 to 64, and 9.4% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 34 years. For every 100 females there are 100.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 96.1 males. The median income for a household in the CDP is $48,047, and the median income for a family is $55,906. Males have a median income of $47,833 versus $29,815 for females. The per capita income for the CDP is $19,333. 7.8% of the population and 6.5% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 8.5% of those under the age of 18 and 12.4% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
