Glencoe High School is a public high school in Hillsboro, Oregon. It was founded in 1980 to help control the growing density of Hillsboro High School due to the town's rapid expansion. Glencoe is classified as a 4A school. Glencoe is well-known in Oregon due to its competitiveness, sportsmanship, and enthusiastic student body.

Mascot

Glencoe's mascot is the Crimson Tide. The official Crimson Tide icon is known as Mr. Tide Guy, and is portrayed as an angry wave with fists. Indeed, Mr. Tide Guy is on nearly all official school mailings, and is often placed in the yearbook as if he were a student. The official mascot at football games and selected other events is Captain Crimson. Captain Crimson was adopted in the early beginnings of Glencoe High School, due to the fact that Mr. Tide Guy would have proved difficult to accurately portray in costume form. The Captain Crimson uniform consists of spandex tights, a spandex long-sleeved shirt with 'Captain Crimson' emblazoned on the front, a pair of crimson basketball shorts, a crimson and black cape, and large prosthetic muscles. The position is ceremoniously handed down through student council to an unusually enthusiastic incoming senior. Previous Captain Crimsons have added their own flair to the uniform; in 2000, Scott Cooper would don a downright frightening mask. In 2003, Caleb Knox wore crimson and black Puma shoes, and in 2004, David Zavertnik frequently wears a headband. Past Captain Crimsons have included:
  • 2000 - Scott Cooper
  • 2001 - N/A
  • 2002 - Matt Guthrie / Jerry Friend
  • 2003 - Caleb Knox
  • 2004 - David Zavertnik

Extracurricular Offerings

Glencoe offers many extracurricular activities, including: Glencoe is mostly recognized for its extraordinary dance and drill team, also known as the Tidettes. The team had been coached by Tim and Judy Baines until their retirement in 2003, when Ali Sullens took over. The team has won twelve out of the last fifteen state championships in the Large Show Division in Oregon. The last year they did not win the state championship was 2000, when Parkrose High School defeated them with a routine that many consider curiously similar to Glencoe's state championship-winning routine in 1999. Glencoe also offers several athletics: Glencoe has won state championships in track and field, both men's and women's basketball, cheerleading, and football (twice, in 1983 and 1994). Glencoe's sporting teams compete in the Metro League.
