Glass Hammer

Glass Hammer is an progressive rock band from the United States. They formed in 1992 when Steve Babb and Fred Schendel began to write and record Journey of the Dunadan, based on the story of Aragorn from Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings. Several thousand Internet sales followed, convincing Babb and Schendel that the band was a concept worth persevering with. Throughout their career Glass Hammer have made constant references to Tolkien and C. S. Lewis, and also spent time to dip their hat to the classic progressive rock sound of the seventies on the concept album Chronometree. While they gave thanks to "God and family" in all their albums, Glass Hammer had never been an overtly Christian rock band until their 2002 release Lex Rex. This concept album, based on a Roman soldier's encounter with Jesus while unavoidably Christian in nature, avoided the preaching tone that makes Christian rock so controversial among listeners. It was also the most highly successful album Glass Hammer had produced up to that stage.
