Girls Just Wanna Have Fun

"Girls Just Wanna Have Fun" was a top hit in 1984 and is perhaps the most popular song by 1980s icon and singer Cyndi Lauper. Originally recorded in 1979 by its writer Robert Hazard, Lauper approached him asking permission to change some of the words to present the same thoughts from a female perspective. Her version became a feminist anthem proclaiming the right of young women to live a life not chained by antiquated tradition and notions. It was a massive hit for Lauper and essentially propelled her to stardom. A teen- dance-themed movie of the title was released in 1985 starring Sarah Jessica Parker as one of the titular roles. In 2002, the song was the last release from Lolly. In 2004, rapper Cam'Ron used the song's chorus for his song "Girls."
