Gilboa (Ridge)

Gilboa גילבוע is a ridge above the Valley of Jezreel in Israel. The ridge extends east-west and is west of the Jordan River. The name is referenced in the old testament of the Bible, sometimes as Mount Gilboa. The ridge also lent its name to the second battle (the Battle of Gilboa) fought in the valley below, in which Philistines defeated Saul and Israel. (Book of Samuel) Some towns in the United States have been named after it (see Gilboa).
