Get Ready (1966 Song)

This article is about the 1966 Temptations song. For other uses, see Get Ready (disambiguation).
"Get Ready" is a 1966 hit single by The Temptations for the Motown label. The song became their last single to be written and produced by Smokey Robinson. Norman Whitfield became the group's main producer with the release of the next single, "Ain't Too Proud to Beg". This song was designed as an answer to the latest dance craze, "The Duck". The song made it to number #1 on the US R&B charts, but only #29 on the pop charts. When Whitfield's "Ain't Too Proud to Beg" (also a #1 R&B hit) made it to #13 on the pop charts, Whitfield became the Temptations' new main producer. In 1969, Motown's rock band Rare Earth released a cover version of the song, the album version of which ran twenty-one minutes. It peaked at #4 on the US pop charts, a better performance than the original. The original Temptations version was later adopted as a jingle promo for the 1989 and 1990 fall seasons for the CBS television network.
