Georgia State Route 316

Georgia State Route 316 (also known as University Parkway, Ga. 316 or 316) links metro Atlanta with Athens, Georgia, home of the University of Georgia. The state route is 39.08 miles in length. Georgia 316 begins at Interstate 85 exit 106, near Lawrenceville, and ends at the Georgia State Route 10 Loop near Athens. The first five miles of the state highway are freeway-style; the rest of the route is at-grade with traffic signals and stop signs. 316 is often considered to be a very dangerous road: the speed is posted at 65 mph, but cars have been clocked at speeds in excess of 100 mph. State legislators have been in talks to upgrade the highway to interstate standards. 316
