He was 27 years old, and a
Private
in the
34th Regiment (later The Border Regiment)
,
British Army
during the
Indian Mutiny
when the following deed took place for which he was awarded the VC. On
27 April
1859
at
Kewane Trans-Gogra
,
India
, Private Richardson, although severely wounded in one arm, closed with and secured an armed rebel sepoy.
