Geoffrey Willans

Geoffrey Willans, author and journalist, was the co-creator, with Ronald Searle, of the Molesworth books. Nigel Molesworth, the "curse of st custard's", first appeared in 1953 in the book Down with Skool! Willans co-wrote the screenplay for the 1959 movie The Bridal Path, which starred George Cole, but he died before the film was released, at the age of 47. He was a keen amateur botanist, and spent so long in the Royal Botanic Gardens at Kew that the staff gave him a key. J.K. Rowling took the name Hogwarts from a rival school to St. Custard's.
